The Thunder Gleeok miniboss can be found in a few places in Tears of the Kingdom but mainly patrol the skies of Faron and Hyrule Field. They are massive, towering dragons with three heads and an extremely short temper. They also possess the ability to create and control lighting, making them a challenge to even the most seasoned of fighters.

In this Tears of the Kingdom guide, we’ll teach you everything you need to know to take one of these ferocious beasts yourself, including exactly how to do it and where to find them.

Official Description: This three-headed monster first appeared after the Upheaval. Fighting it alone is inadvisable, as its three heads will attack you all at once. When someone sets foot upon its turf, this beast will unleash a salvo of lightning strikes, not letting up until the intruder is reduced to a pile of ashes.

Recommended Gear

Taking down any sort of Gleeok requires your strongest gear, plenty of arrows, at least a few bows, and Keese Eyeballs. And whatever you do, make sure you don’t bring any metal weapons or shields with you. If you’re planning on taking down a mighty Thunder Gleeok, bring some, if not all, of the following items with you into battle:

- Rubber Armor Set
- Shock Resistance elixirs or food
- Non-metal bows.
- Arrows
- Non-metal melee weapons.
- Keese Eyeballs

Thunder Gleeok electrify the air surrounding them, so using metal weapons and gear can attract unwanted lighting strikes. A good collection of non-conductive weapons is advised.

How to Defeat a Thunder Gleeok in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

If you wear all three pieces of the Rubber Armor Set and have upgraded them twice, you’ll get the Shock Resistance set bonus. This will stop you from getting electrocuted from the Thunder Gleeok’s attacks, but you will still take physical damage.

Thunder Gleeoks are some of the most frighteningly strong minibosses in Tears of the Kingdom. They are incredibly huge and equally powerful. And as if that wasn’t enough, they also fly, making them hard to reach with arrows and near impossible to reach with melee weapons.

A good stock of arrows and Keese Eyeballs are absolutely recommended in this fight. Aerocuda Eyeballs work as well, but Keese eyeballs are easier to get your hands on. Although it’s difficult to hit a Thunder Gleeok without some sort of Eyeball, it’s not impossible. They definitely make the process a lot easier, though.

To defeat a Thunder Gleeok, you have to hit each of its three heads directly in the eye with an arrow. The heads act independently, so it will continue attacking you until you hit all three. Once you do, the Gleeok will fall to the ground, allowing you to rush in and start wailing on its heads with your strongest weapon possible.

The Gleeok will get up eventually, so you will have to repeat this process a couple of times. But eventually, you will defeat it using this method.

If you’re struggling to land a hit on the Gleeok because it’s out of range of your bow, Fuse a Zonai Rocket to your shield to launch yourself into the air, or light a fire and throw a Hylian Pinecone into it and glide up the updraft.

Alternative Strategy

Gleeoks are so strong and difficult to reach with anything but arrows, that alternative strategies are few and far between. But if you have a healthy stock of Zonai devices, you could always create some sort of hectic Zonai construction to help you take down your Gleeok.

The things you can create with Zonai devices are limited only by your creativity. You can make an incredibly powerful lazerbeam canon with the following items:

- 4x Big Batteries.
- 1x Hoverstone.
- 1x Stabilizer
- 1x Construct Head
- As many Beam Emitters as you can muster.

If you attach your Big Batteries to each side of a Hoverstone, place a Stalibizer on top of the Hoverstone, attach a Construct Head to the top of the Stabilizer, and then stack as many Beam Emitters as you possibly can on top of the Construct Head, you have yourself an absolutely epic machine that could potentially take down anything in its path. Even a Gleeok.

Attack Patterns

Thunder Gleeoks have many different attacks in their repertoire, and they aren’t afraid to use them. They can use any or all of these attacks in varying combinations and sometimes use more than one at once.

The most common attack you can expect to see from a Thunder Gleeok is a laser beam. These can be emitted from all three heads at the same time, and they track your movement as you try to run away. If you have mastered the art of Perfect Dodging, this is a perfect time to put those skills to the test, but you can also outrun the lasers the old-fashioned way.

Thunder Gleeoks can also release balls of thunder that float in the air, releasing a large amount of electricity when they hit the ground, almost like a bubble. These will electrocute you, knocking you down and leaving you vulnerable to follow-up attacks. Sometimes electrocution can also cause you to drop your weapons, so run or jump out of the thunderballs way as they approach and pick up any weapons you’ve dropped along the way.

Thunder Gleeoks also have the ability to rain laser beams down from the sky. These land all over the battlefield and electrocute you on impact. They do cause an updraft as they hit the ground, however, which you can use to your advantage to soar closer to the beast.

A Gleeok’s massive wingspan creates huge gusts of wind that knock you off your feet if you get too close. This happens both in the air and on the ground, so arrows are one of the only ways to hit it unless you have a giant Zonai creation on your side.

Thunder Gleeok Item Drops

Thunder Gleeoks drop the following items when defeated:

- Gleeok Thunder Horn: +30 Fuse attack power and thunder elemental damage.
- Gleeok Wing: +24 Fuse attack power.
- Gleeok Guts.
