The Four Dragons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can be found wandering Hyrule, seemingly unbothered by the Upheaval's catastrophic changes to the landscape. These Dragons must be tracked down for certain quests and offer valuable materials for players willing to get close.

In Tears of the Kingdom, there are Four Dragons: Dinraal, Farosh, Naydra, and the nameless Light Dragon. The first three represent fire, lightning, and ice, respectively, with the materials gained from tracking them down providing elemental power accordingly. This guide will explain the flight paths of the dragons, how to get up to them, and how to retrieve materials from each of them.

How to Reach a Dragon and Get Materials from Them

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - How to Find the Four Dragons: Farosh, Naydra, Dinraal & Light Dragon (1)

When it comes to getting up to a Dragon, there are a few methods that can prove effective. Players can, of course, launch into the sky via a Skyview Tower or glide down from the Sky Islands to get to a Dragon without too much difficulty, assuming one of those is available nearby. Failing that, players could instead construct a flying machine and use it to ascend toward the dragon.

In the case of Dinraal, Farosh, and Naydra, players could also wait for the dragon to enter or exit a chasm and then leap onto it as it does so. The Light Dragon sticks to the skies, however, so this method is ineffective when trying to reach her.

Once Link has made it to the Dragon, there are several resources for him to harvest from it. First, players should walk the length of the dragon to collect shards off its spikes. After this, players should head to the Dragon's head and use a weapon to hit the Horn, breaking a small piece off that can be collected.

Do the same to the body to instead get a Dragon Scale. Shooting a Dragon in the mouth with an arrow will knock loose a piece of its fang, which can be collected as it falls or after it hits the ground.

Finally, Link should find the Dragon's claws and jump off, pegging one with an arrow on the way down to knock a piece of claw loose. It will shine on the way down like the Fangs do, so track it down to the ground and grab it or just catch it in midair if possible.

Testing has shown that the Dragon Horn and Scale can only be obtained once every 12 minutes or so and that they share a cooldown, so players will probably want to head off and do something else for a bit before returning to get another.

Dinraal Path And Location In Tears Of The Kingdom

Dinraal, the Fire Dragon, can be found soaring between the Eldin Mountains and Akkala Highlands. It dips into the chasm to the left of the Typhlo Ruins Skyview Tower on the map, then curves up and around Gorondia in the Depths before ascending through the Chasm north of Tarrey Town to begin its path again.

Dinraal's flight route can be seen marked in the images above, with the following map showing its route through the depths.

Dinraal, being a Fire Dragon, emits intense heat that requires fireproof armor to survive, so players should acquire some Flamebreaker armor before trying to land on them. Dinraal also creates fireballs that radiate outward from near its head, so players should be cautious when flying near the dragon or riding on it.

Dinraal's Spike Fragments will create hammers that channel the power of fire, and its Horn creates sword weapons with exceptional attack power and fire damage, making them excellent for fusing weapons. They can also be used to create explosively powerful fire arrows, as can the Dragon's Scales.

Dinraal's Scales will also extend the duration of food buffs by two minutes when used as a cooking ingredient. Dinraal's Claw serves as a powerful elemental component that can boost attack power, similar to the Scale, and is also worth quite a few Rupees. It's also needed for a certain side quest, so hanging onto one is a good idea. All of Dinraal's Materials can create potent fire arrows that can be dangerous to Link at close range but are incredibly powerful against foes.

Naydra Path And Location In Tears Of The Kingdom

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - How to Find the Four Dragons: Farosh, Naydra, Dinraal & Light Dragon (4)

Naydra, the Ice Dragon, can be found navigating the skies from Naydra Snowfield (to the Left of the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower on the Map) to Hateno Village and the Necluda Sea before heading westward over East Necluda and up towards Kakariko Village.

Upon reaching Kakariko Village, Naydra dives into the chasm just north before traveling through the depths back towards Naydra Snowfield. It then emerges from the Chasm to the left of the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower and repeats its route. Its route above ground can be seen on the map above.

Naydra is an Ice Dragon, so Link must wear cold-resistant armor (or use food that grants cold resistance) to approach it. Naydra also creates clouds of cold air that will freeze Link solid, which emerge from the area near Naydra's head and drift outward. Players should be cautious of this when attempting to ride Naydra or fly close to it.

Naydra's Horns will create swords that deal high damage and freeze enemies solid, and her Spike fragments will create Hammers with the same properties. Its Scales also offer the ice element and a damage boost, along with boosting food buff durations by two minutes when used in cooking.

Finally, her Claw behaves similarly to the scale when used in fusion and is needed for a particular side quest. Like Dinraal's Materials, Naydra's parts will create potent ice arrows with a wide AOE, proving devastating against foes but difficult to use at close range.

Farosh, the Lightning Dragon, can often be spotted near the Faron Grasslands to the right of the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower, or in a small stretch of desert near that tower. Starting from the Tower, the Dragon moves southeast, following the canyon before straightening its course to head east towards Lake Hylia.

From Lake Hylia, it dives into the chasm to the left of the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower, then circles around to head towards the Abandoned Gerudo Mine in the Depths. A little before the Mine, it moves upwards to emerge from the chasm south of the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower, flying back towards the tower to repeat its route. The dragon's Overworld flight route can be seen in the image above.

Here's a look at Farosh's path through the depths:

Farosh has a constant lightning storm around it, so players should unequip any metal weapons, bows, and shields before approaching it. Once players reach Farosh, its Horns can create lightning swords, and its Spike Fragments create lightning hammers, while its scales provide the lightning element and a damage boost.

Farosh's Scales can also boost food buff durations by two minutes when used in cooking. Farosh's Claw behaves similarly to the scale when used in fusion and is also needed for a particular side quest. Like the previous two dragons' materials, Farosh's parts can create powerful AOE lightning arrows that are tremendously effective against foes and a hazard to Link when fired at close range.

The Light Dragon Path And Location In Tears Of The Kingdom

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - How to Find the Four Dragons: Farosh, Naydra, Dinraal & Light Dragon (7)

The Light Dragon is easily the hardest of the Dragons to track down as she flies around the entire map, dipping inland periodically before heading back towards the edge of the map. As such, the best way to track this Dragon is by taking a photo of it and using Sensor+ or launching from Skyview Towers and looking for it in all directions.

If it can't be seen from a particular Skyview Tower, players should head for another and try again, repeating until the Dragon is found.

Finally, players can seek out the Great Deku Tree in the Korok Woods to start a quest to mark the Light Dragon on the map until it is completed. This can't be repeated, so players should make sure to grab a picture of the Dragon for Sensor+ before leaving.

The Light Dragon's Horns and Spike Fragments will create swords and hammers that restore health when they hit the enemy, whilst its scales provide the same healing effect but can also be used for cooking (granting a 2-minute duration boost to food buffs). Its fang and claw behave similarly to the scale when fused but are also worth a lot of Rupees.

One final thing to mention about the Light Dragon is rather spoilery, so read ahead with caution.

Atop the Light Dragon's Head, the Master Sword can be found waiting.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for Nintendo Switch.
