Oregon’s 2023 high school football season kicks off on Thursday night.
Why are we on a Thursday? A statewide referee shortage (an issue that is being seen nationwide) is forcing football teams in Oregon to play on Thursdays and Saturdays as well as the classic Friday Night Lights. The Oregon School Activities Association has recently adjusted its recruitment strategies as a way to increase numbers, but for not we still have a number of football games away from Fridays.
Regardless of the day, Oregon’s football teams will likely end the night with highlight plays and big numbers to light up scoreboards.
