Hi! I got some blood tests done for my 8 month old. Results came in and I THINK I understand them, but not totally sure. I’ve been waiting for my provider to call me. Finally called them, and the doc who we met with virtually was a “visiting provider” and they can’t get me an appointment with her for weeks. I just want to understand the results. I’ll post them here. Any insight would be great!

My first was allergic to egg and egg whites. She is now 6 and grew out of it within 2 years of age. The allergist first did a blood test similar to this. It showed around 8 things she was “mild” allergic to and “high”was the egg. So then when we went for the actual allergist appointment They did the skin prick test where they use baby’s back and put some of the allergen in to see if they react. So they used this blood test to see which foods to test her skin for. So the only thing she was allergic to was egg even though there were 8 things she could have maybe been allergic to by the blood test. (One was beef which she ate all the time with no sensitivity) The blood test is not accurate but the skin test is supposedly. So don’t worry much about the blood test until they actually do the skin test with really isn’t that bad on baby. The hardest thing about it was trying to keep her on her belly for 15 mins while waiting for her skin to react or not react.
So take away is don’t worry about the blood test. My daughter would scream in pain and throw up when she ate egg, like as soon as she ate it within 10 mins of eating it. She would also get a rash all over her skin or on her face. It was not fun! But she grew out of it within a year. So hang in there!

@nicolevonderhaar,
this is actually such helpful information, because his blood test egg results were just slightly above the normal range. When he reacted, it was probably his 8th time having eggs, which he LOVES. He’s had them one more time since the reaction and didn’t react. I still haven’t heard from the allergist! but this was very helpful!! Thank you!!❤️

With my first we were super scared of food allergies. My pediatrician with Kaiser said they don’t recommend doing food allergy tests this early because a lot of time they give false results and you will withhold certain foods they most likely are not allergic to.

@andiz3,
It was actually the pediatrician who wanted us to order one! I almost wish we didn’t do it because I do think it might confuse us. We will see what the allergist says if they ever call me back

@Octobermama25,
My daughter was somewhere between 13-14 months old when we figured out she was allergic and the allergist told us NOT to give her egg and gave us a Epi-pen if needed. I’m not sure what they would tell you for a younger baby that has had egg several timesand reacted once! My pediatrician told me to give baby allergens several times and keep giving it to them but not sure if they react. That is crazy isn’t it!
