What to Know

Critics Consensus

Bearing only the slightest resemblance to Isaac Asimov's short stories, I, Robot is still a summer blockbuster that manages to make viewers think -- if only a little.

I, Robot | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Sukhdev Sandhu Daily Telegraph (UK) Leaving aside the sub-Matrix hokum about Spooner's sweet-potato-loving grandmom, the movie humiliates itself - and embarrasses us - by the amount of time it spends plugging a glamorous car... Audience Member This was a good sci-fi action. I would say that it needed to be a little more engaging at the middle but it put out. It was enjoyable, I'd recommend it. I have vague memories of this movie from my childhood. It's entertaining. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Shaun E I robot is an, albeit imperfect, excellent film. The film starts off in a weird way - it appears to be more of an advert for a pair of shoes than the start of a film. The product placement is blatant. If they had dropped it there, then it might not be the sort of thing to draw the viewer out of the film and keep them fixed in the drama. The set up for a distrust of robots is nicely done. CGI was probably good for its time, but looks a bit overdone and busy. It certainly looked a bit too false. The problem with changing technology.Other than that, the story is very well done. I have not read Asimov's work upon which the film was loosely based, so have no comment as to how faithful it was to the core storyline, but as a standalone piece of work it does raise some very good points about a future which is increasingly looking at artificial intelligence.
