How many Q drops do you get Tamu? ›

The symbol Q shall be given to indicate a drop without academic penalty. Undergraduate students will normally be permitted four Q-drops during their undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University, regardless of transfer status.

When Texas A&M introduced short answer questions to their application in 2020, many students felt panicked. Applications are already writing-intensive, so the thought of even more required writing was an overwhelming prospect. It is helpful to remember that these short answer questions are intended to benefit students.

Credit for a course failed may be obtained only by registering for and repeating the course. The original grade will remain on the student's permanent record, and both grades will be used in computing the GPA. An F or U previously earned is not removed once the course is passed.

You will receive a “Q” as your grade in the course and it will show on your transcript. Your GPA is not affected by a Q. You are only allowed six Q-drops while you are an undergrad at any public Texas institution.
